The project

From individual buildings to a neighbourhood of digital twins

Smart Campus gives NMBU a connected data foundation for managing energy, space use, operations and maintenance, and a platform for research, learning and new services.

Background

A diverse campus needs a shared context

NMBU manages a diverse building portfolio on the Ås campus. Buildings vary in age, technical systems and data availability. The information exists, but has traditionally been spread across many systems and disciplines.

Through Smart Campus, NMBU uses digital solutions, the Internet of Things (IoT) and property technology (proptech) to support energy efficiency and more cost-effective property management.

What you can reuse

Built to be shared

The platform is organised into horizontal layers, with an independent data layer, a shared ontology and standardised connections to local and cloud-based data sources.

01

Architecture

A pattern for separating the data foundation from individual applications and suppliers.

02

Information models

Semantics based on open standards such as RealEstateCore, Brick and the Norwegian interdisciplinary identification system (TFM).

03

Integrations

Documented connections between building information modelling (BIM), sensors, building management systems, energy and use.

04

Experience

Methods, priorities and lessons from development and operations at the Ås campus.

From data to services

A standardised interface for the campus

When energy, indoor climate and usage data are connected to the same structure, the information can support operations, analysis, visualisation and research.
